Tenure Track dependent on qualifications

POSITION:  

Southwest Baptist University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position as Instructor or Assistant Professor of Sociology. Rank and eligibility for tenure track will be contingent on qualifications of the candidate. The candidate selected will be responsible for teaching 24 semester hours of undergraduate courses in sociology per academic year. Candidates must be evangelical Christians who have a commitment to Christian higher education. Preference will be given to Southern Baptists. Responsibilities will begin in August 2014.

University:

Southwest Baptist University, accredited by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges, offers courses leading both to undergraduate and graduate degrees. Approximately 1,745 on-campus students may choose from 58 programs of study as they pursue a liberal arts-based, career-oriented education. The campus is located in the city of Bolivar, a community of 10,000 located 23 miles north of Springfield, Missouri.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Sociology or equivalent specialty required, ABD applications considered
  • Emphases in research, statistics, criminology and gerontology areas preferred
  • Successful undergraduate teaching experience preferred
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, advising, and mentoring students
  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member as the Behavioral Sciences department has majors in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, and  social work
  • Commitment to the liberal arts educational mission and the evangelical orientation of SBU
  • Commitment to Southwest Baptist University’s values and principles
